The Importance of your website navigation for your SEO campaign
Thu, 31 Jul 2008 16:13:54 by Emily Mace

When promoting your website to search engines it is important to remember that part of your search engine optimisation is the navigation of your website.

Making the information on your website easy to find is key to keeping visitors on your site, attracting repeat visits and also for attracting search engines. If a search engine can easily reach all the information your website your relevancy to the products on your website will increase. This will help your search engine rankings.
Hiding information on your site within non keyword related sections will reduce this ranking potential.

Once you have chosen the keywords for your website, include these keywords throughout the site. Using these words on the menu bar and within the links on your site will help your search engine optimisation.

Name pages on your site using this keyword selection and not things like ID numbers or database queries. Using keywords in the names of your files helps with the rankings for the URLs on your site.

When linking on your site try and avoid terms like "Click here" or "Find out more" but use link text that includes your keywords and what the user will find when then follow the links. This is not only good for search engines but also for your users, including those who might use screen readers to read the website to them.

Using keywords in the Navigation also helps with this process, instead of using "what we do" or "Our service". Using these keywords not only helps Search Engines crawl your site and rank the pages but will help visitors find your products as well.

Making these changes to your navigation and linking structure of your site will greatly improve the success of your SEO campaign.
