Nielson releases November 2007 US Search Share Statistics
Mon, 31 Dec 2007 04:46:55 by Cameron Winslow

Nielson has recently released the latest statistics on what each of the major Search Engines have for market share based on US searches.

There is an article that highlights some of the latest stats:  http://searchengineland.com/071228-092326.php

 Here are the top five:

  • Google: 57.7%
  • Yahoo: 17.9%
  • Microsoft: 12.0%
  • AOL: 4.5%
  • Ask: 2.7%

The figures above are the percentage of all US searches handled by the leading search engines.

It is important to note that search volumes are increasing and that is not always reflected in the market share percentages of each search engine.  So it would not be prudent to discount for example ASK based on the 2.7% market share as that would now represent a higher overall search volume than one year ago.

It is still imperitive that companies incorporate an inclusive strategy across the various search engines rather than exclusively focus on only the Top 1 or 2.  This is important in both organic and PPC strategies and very cost effective in both strategies if managed properly.

Stay tuned as I will bring you the EOY latest statistics as soon as they are available.
