Google Maps now gives you UK Traffic Information

Google announced a year and a half ago that traffic information reports were being added as a feature to Google Maps, and this has now been rolled out to the UK!

I tried this out, as trying to get out of Portsmouth around this time of day on a Friday afternoon isn't always that simple:

Fortunately, it appears that the coast is clear to get out of Portsmouth today! There is a system in place that colour codes the main roads in the area you search for, and green means decent traffic moving speeds.

I wanted to see a bit more colour in the road maps, so thought I would check out the m25 - and true to form, there is a variety of colours here:

It looks like some people coming out of London are going to take a bit longer to get home than me tonight. I'm sure that this will be a really useful addition to Google Maps for most people - although as I don't drive, and live about 5 minutes walk away from the office, perhaps not people like me! I'm just really glad that they added a walking directions option recently.
